    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 5, 2023) – A team of superheroes at J. Percy Priest Lake are known for tooling around campgrounds and recreation areas while repairing and maintaining facilities, often saving the day by unclogging a restroom sink, fixing a leaky water line, or restoring power at a campsite.

    Cheatham Lock helps fuel Middle Tennessee in wake of pipeline shutdown

    ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (May 24, 2021) – With the recent shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District opened up Cheatham Lock despite restrictions during scheduled maintenance so barges destined to fuel Middle Tennessee could navigate up the Cumberland River to Nashville terminals.

    Fleischmann, DesJarlais see progress during tour to Chickamauga Replacement Lock

    Nashville District recognizes fleet achievements ahead of reorganization

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 18, 2016) – The repair fleet in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, a mainstay of the Twin Rivers since the 1800s when crews first began opening the region’s waterways to navigation onboard canoes, flatboats and keelboats, is marking the end of an era as people and resources are reorganized into a regional light fleet Oct. 1, 2016.

    The Lake Barkley Navigational Lock is back up and running after being dry for most of the month of November as work crews inspect and repair underwater components. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District employees dewatered the 51-year-old, 110-by-600-foot lock and closely inspected the miter gates, culvert valves and all other areas of the lower lock chamber that are normally underwater.

    Agencies team up to reopen Chickamauga Lock

    HIXSON, Tenn. (Nov. 7, 2014) – Teamwork and a valuable dialogue between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority led to a quick repair action that reopened Chickamauga Lock this week to commercial barges and recreational vessels moving up and down the Tennessee River.

    Work crews assessed damage Oct. 31, 2014 on the upper gate anchorage at Chickamauga Lock. After a brief meeting with engineers, staff and several Tennessee Valley Authority officials, Lt. Col. John L. Hudson, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District commander gave the approval to reopen Chickamauga Lock to all navigation traffic as early as Thursday, Nov. 6.

(Aug. 1, 2014) – When a gate at Pickwick Lock malfunctioned early this week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Dive Team demonstrated its quick-response capability when it organized a dive into the lock to troubleshoot the situation just hours after being notified.

The $11.5 million, major repair project began Aug. 15, 2012 when contractor employees lifted the 270-ton assembly by crane and placed it on a nearby pedestal for repair by National Electric Coil from Columbus, Ohio. Unit 1 was placed back on line Nov. 18, 2013.

    Cheatham Lock closing for repairs Oct. 16 through Nov. 15

    ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Cheatham Lock will be closed to all river traffic from 6 a.m., Oct. 16, through 6 p.m., Nov. 15, 2012, to permit major maintenance repairs to hydraulic and mechanical equipment damaged during the 2010 flood along with other routine maintenance.
