    Volunteers lauded for work on Bear Wheels Mountain Bike Trail

    CARTHAGE, Tenn. (Aug 29, 2023) – Volunteers from the Upper Cumberland Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association recently partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Cordell Hull Lake to host a trail maintenance day at Defeated Creek Park on the Bear Wheels Mountain Bike Trail.

    Foster eliminates ‘hot spots’ at Barkley power plant and restores connectivity

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 14, 2023) – The construction team at Barkley Dam Powerplant has reliable internet, thanks to Lance Foster, an information technology specialist in the Electronic Service Section. For his hard work and dedication, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District named Foster Employee of the Month for May 2023.

    Lock operator returns home to Guam to support Typhoon Mawar recovery

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 11, 2023) – Old Hickory Lock Operator Anthony Certeza recently deployed to Guam in the aftermath of Typhoon Mawar, which devastated his native island in late May. He performed home inspections and literally assisted his own parents who lost power and needed his help.

    Park rangers respond to drownings by promoting water safety

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 29, 2023) – Park rangers in Tennessee and Kentucky are stepping up efforts to promote water safety in lieu of 10 tragic drownings already this recreation season at Corps lakes in the Cumberland River Basin.

    Green becomes 68th commander of Nashville District

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 16, 2023) – Lt. Col. Robert W. Green took command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District today during a change of command ceremony at the Tennessee National Guard Armory. He becomes the 68th commander of the “twin rivers” district, commonly referred to as the jewel of the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division.

    Critical design achievement keeps flood risk management project on track

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 13, 2023) – Civil Engineer Brandon Whitley recently made a critical design update that resulted in keeping the Mouse Creek Flood Risk Management Project on track in Cleveland, Tennessee. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recognized his achievement by selecting him as employee of the month for April 2023.

    Nashville District pushes full STEAM ahead with teacher focused externships

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June. 12, 2023) – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math educators from Metro Nashville Public Schools and Clarksville-Montgomery County School System wanted to find creative ways to educate their students and bridge the gap between learning and practical application.     CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (June 2, 2023) – Michael Wilkinson is a safety specialist and quiet professional focused on teaching and ensuring the contractor makes things safe for about 500 construction workers at the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project.

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (May 23, 2023) – Construction of a new navigation lock on the Tennessee River reached a monolithic milestone yesterday as crews and officials held a topping-off ceremony to mark the completion of the first concrete monolith.

    ORBIT stakeholders navigate Kentucky Lock Addition Project

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (May 19, 2023) – The Ohio River Basin Inspection Tour visited western Kentucky this week where stakeholders of the basin highlighted healthy and productive ecosystems, reliable flood risk management, and resilience of the Ohio River waterway system for inland navigation. They also navigated to the Kentucky Lock Addition Project for a construction update and better understanding of how the larger lock will help unlock congested commercial barge traffic.

    Officials break ground on K-25 Viewing Platform

    OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (May 11, 2023) – Officials broke ground today on a building that will provide a historic lookout over the footprint where the K-25 Building once stood and the Oak Ridge Diffusion Plant produced uranium during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project. Dignitaries welcomed guests, made speeches, and shoveled dirt to officially kick off construction of the K-25 Viewing Platform at East Tennessee Technology Park.

Percy Priest Lake are known for tooling around campgrounds and recreation areas while repairing and maintaining facilities, often saving the day by unclogging a restroom sink, fixing a leaky water line, or restoring power at a campsite.

    Communities spanning two counties dedicate Periwinkle Trail

    GRANVILLE, Tenn. (March 28, 2023) - The communities of Smith County, Jackson County and the “Friends of Cordell Hull Lake” dedicated Periwinkle Trail March 25, 2023, at the Indian Creek Archery Range trailhead. The newly constructed trail provides hikers a new path to experience the outdoors and creates a bond between the two counties.

    Small Business Industry Day highlights women-owned small business

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 9, 2023) – Nearly 300 business owners and managers received extensive information about small business opportunities within the federal, state and local procurement systems during the Small Business Industry Day March 6, 2023, at the Tennessee State University Avon Williams Campus.

    Lock operators work super safely near mega construction projects

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 8, 2023) – Operators at navigation locks could easily wear capes for the super work they do to ensure the safety of the public, not to mention employees that maintain these projects in the Cumberland and Tennessee River systems. At Kentucky Lock in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, and Chickamauga Lock in Chattanooga, Tennessee, ongoing mega construction projects to build larger new locks pose additional hazards for these vigilant protectors of people and resources.
