    GRAND RIVERS, KY (May 30, 2017) – The US Highway 62 Bridge across the Tennessee River below Kentucky Dam has been re-named in memory and in honor of former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kentucky Lock resident engineer George A. (Tony) Ellis Tuesday.

    Process improvement earns Nashville District team LEAP award

    WASHINGTON (May 25, 2017) – A process improvement effort to streamline how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District purchases its supplies paid off during a ceremony May 18, 2017 at the Pentagon when the Army’s Lean Six Sigma Award Program gave its Process Improvement Project Team Excellence Award to the project delivery team.
  • A group of students and teachers from Martin Luther King, Maplewood, Hillsboro, and Nashville School of the Arts High schools and four college students from Tennessee State University during their visit May 4. A team of engineering professionals from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District welcomed the group for a Corps career overview and tour of the Old Hickory Lock and Dam in Hendersonville, Tenn.

    STEM students learn about engineering on dam tour

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (May 18, 2017) – A team of engineering professionals from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently welcomed area high school and college students for a Corps career overview and tour of the Old Hickory Lock and Dam in Hendersonville, Tenn.
  • Soldiers from the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment, traditionally known as "The Old Guard," carry American Revolutionary War Private Samuel Howard during a reinterment ceremony at Resthaven Cemetery in Baxter, Ky. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District worked with local community and state officials to move Howard from Wix-Howard Cemetery when his grave was endangered by soil movement from a design deficiency of a flood control project completed in the 1990s.

    Reinterment demonstrates Army’s commitment to soldiers in life and beyond

    BAXTER, Ky. (May 12, 2017) – The U.S. Army reinterred American Revolutionary War Private Samuel Howard today at Resthaven Cemetery with full military honors, demonstrating the Army’s commitment to a patriot who braved the encampment at Valley Forge, Pa., and stood at Yorktown, Va., when British Gen. Charles Cornwallis surrendered to Gen. George Washington.

    Hydropower experts generate information exchange in Music City

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 21, 2017) – More than 100 hydropower experts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tennessee Valley Authority, Southeastern Power Administration, and private power supply companies benefited from an exchange of information during the 40th Annual Joint Hydropower Conference April 19-20 at the Inn at Opryland.

    Engineering and construction trio forges goodwill on Mosul Dam projects

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 20, 2017) – An engineering and construction trio from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently returned home from Iraq where they helped oversee construction projects at Mosul Dam, forged goodwill with the international repair team, and even supported the military operation to retake the city of Mosul.

    Parents ‘show and tell’ on ‘Take Your Kids to Work Day’

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 14, 2017) – Excited youngsters eagerly donned life jackets today for the chance to learn about navigation and water safety on board several Corps of Engineers boats docked on the Cumberland River at Music City’s Riverfront. Throughout the day they participated in lots of fun activities, learned about Nashville District operations and missions, and their parents did a lot of “show and tell” on “Take Your Kids to Work Day.”

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 7, 2017) – Laurel Blackman, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering and Construction Division geologist, is the district’s employee of the month for February 2017.

    Nashville District celebrates career of its top civilian leader

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 31, 2017) – The Nashville District celebrated the illustrious career of its top civilian leader today during a retirement ceremony at the Estes Kefauver Federal Building in Nashville, Tenn.
  • A team Corps employees from various locks and dams throughout the Nashville District hoist a simulated injured worker from a permitted confined space at the Center Hill power plant during a permitted confined space training class March 16, 2017.

    Training simulation rescues dummy to save lives

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (March 30, 2017) – Maintenance workers, mechanics, electricians and safety personnel recently descended into confined spaces deep within Center Hill Dam to rescue a trapped dummy in a training simulation. The group set up a tripod rescue system, placed it over an opening in the power plant floor and used a horizontal lift technique to hoist the mock victim 30 feet to safety.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 29, 2017) – The Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers recently awarded its Government Engineer of the Year award to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s retired water management section chief.

    Tennessee Silver Jackets team focuses on flood risk management

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 27, 2017) – Members of the Tennessee Silver Jackets team recently joined emergency managers nationwide in a collective effort to discuss water management challenges and work on identifying possible solutions at the 2017 Interagency Flood Risk Management Workshop in St. Louis, Mo.

Percy Priest Lake, Old Hickory Lake, Cordell Hull Lake, Center Hill Lake, Dale Hollow Lake, Lake Barkley, and Lake Cumberland attended a conference March 7-9, 2017 at the Cheatham Lake Resource Managers Office in Ashland City, Tenn. They shared and discussed information on contract procedures, operations, safety, deadlines, timelines, facility upgrades, and use of geospatial and geographic information systems.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 24, 2017) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District employees maintain some of the largest and most used recreational areas in the country close by in the Cumberland River Basin, not a simple task. Just like preparing a home, an apartment, or a recreational vehicle for the next season, the key to maintaining facilities at campgrounds is planning.

    District geologists educate Mosul Dam engineers on GIS modeling

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 17, 2017) – Five engineers from the Ministry of Water Resources at the Mosul Dam project in Iraq and one engineer from Trevi S.p.A., the construction company working on the project, recently completed three weeks of training with a U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Data Management Reach Back Team. They learned about a Nashville District developed Mosul Dam Geographic Information Systems model, the GIS software, and the geology model of Mosul Dam.
