    Lamont seeks greater understanding of aging infrastructure at Chickamauga Lock

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2017) – To gain a better perspective of the nation’s aging infrastructure on America’s waterways the senior official performing duties of secretary of the Army for Civil Works toured Chickamauga Lock today to realize the challenges of keeping a deteriorated lock open while racing against time to construct a replacement lock.

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 25, 2016) – The Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project restarted today with official fanfare as a $3.1 million cofferdam stabilization project got underway.

    Corps hosts University of Tennessee Martin students at Lake Barkley

    KUTTAWA, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2013) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineer, Nashville District employees at the Lake Barkley Resource Center, Lock and Dam hosted Students and faculty from the University of Tennessee at Martin Hydrology and Hydraulics class for a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math tour today.
  • This is Dale Hollow Dam Feb. 26, 2013. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District electricians at Dale Hollow Dam on the Obey river are working on a Sustainability Program Initiative project to replace the contracted local utility power source to the resource managers office, maintenance shops, and transient quarters with direct power from the Dale Hollow Power House.     Cheatham Lock closing for repairs Oct. 16 through Nov. 15

    ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Cheatham Lock will be closed to all river traffic from 6 a.m., Oct. 16, through 6 p.m., Nov. 15, 2012, to permit major maintenance repairs to hydraulic and mechanical equipment damaged during the 2010 flood along with other routine maintenance.

    Lake Barkley open house, tours of power plant, lock are well received

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (June 23, 2012)—The first Lake Barkley Resource Management Office Open House and public tours of the Barkley Power Plant and Navigation Lock in nearly 11 years were held today to better inform the public about the benefits these facilities provide to the nation. Public access to these U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District areas had been restricted since the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 31, 2012) – The commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recognized the end of an era as he presented nine students from its lock operator class with graduation certificates here today at J. Percy Priest Lake.

    Tennessee River locking operations keep America's economy in ship shape

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2011) – There are nine locks on the Tennessee River that the Nashville District operates, but there are four that are crucial to day-to-day commerce of the United States in Northern Alabama and Southwest Tennessee. Operators at the Pickwick, Wilson, Wheeler and Guntersville Locks move tons of cargo through their locks on a daily basis.

    Barkley Lock goes dry for scheduled inspection, major maintenance

    KUTTAWA, Ky. (Aug. 12, 2011) – Work crews here continue to pump out water today from Barkley Lock as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District performs scheduled inspection and major maintenance repairs.
