    Barkley hydropower rehabilitation gets a 270-ton lift

    KUTTAWA, Ky. (Aug. 16, 2012) – Work crews here at Barkley Power Plant removed a 270-ton rotor assembly today from a crippled hydropower unit damaged 18 months ago by an electrical fire. The heavy lift enables the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to move forward with the generator’s rehabilitation.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn.     NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 27, 2012) – When the lower Ohio and Mississippi Rivers experienced a flood of record in the spring of 2011, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District supported the flood fight by holding back water at its dams in the Cumberland River Basin reservoir system.

    Center Hill Lake open house, power plant tours draw young, elderly visitors

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (July 21, 2012) – The first tours of the Center Hill Lake Power Plant since Sept. 11, 2001 drew the young and the elderly here today. Visitors ranged from an 83-year-old gentleman who worked on construction of the dam to a nine-year-old boy whose late great-grandfather’s property was reduced by approximately 100 acres, but who also worked on construction of the dam.

    Construction begins with ‘first bite’ on foundation barrier wall at Center Hill Dam

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (July 11, 2012) – The “first bite” of a $106 million drilling project to stabilize the earthen portion of the Center Hill Dam with a barrier wall was taken today by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and its contractor, Bauer Foundation Corporation, as the auger of a giant drill rig turned up the first dirt to the cheers of spectators.

    Lake Barkley open house, tours of power plant, lock are well received

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (June 23, 2012)—The first Lake Barkley Resource Management Office Open House and public tours of the Barkley Power Plant and Navigation Lock in nearly 11 years were held today to better inform the public about the benefits these facilities provide to the nation. Public access to these U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District areas had been restricted since the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

    Fort Campbell combat engineers learn Nashville District’s ‘civilian missions’

    NASHVILLE, TENN. (May 9, 2012) – Combat engineers of Fort Campbell’s 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division, adept at mine-clearing, demolition, and construction projects in a combat environment, visited the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District today to learn more about Corps “civilian missions” as part of their professional development.

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (April 13, 2012) – A wild turkey hunt at Center Hill Lake today gave soldiers rehabilitating from war wounds the opportunity to put aside the stresses associated with the every-day grind of physical and mental therapy while recovering at Fort Campbell, Ky.
