    Forum empowers Corps of Engineers

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 13, 2015) – Personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Valley Authority, floodplain administrators, community leaders, and technical professionals from throughout Tennessee attended the 6th Annual Tennessee Association of Floodplain Managers Conference in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The unit suffered a phase-to-ground fault resulting in a fire that damaged the 32.5 Megawatt generator wirings in Dec. 19, 2010. The $11.5 million, major repair project began Aug. 15, 2012 when contractor employees lifted the 270-ton assembly by crane and placed it on a nearby pedestal for repair by National Electric Coil from Columbus, Ohio. Unit 1 was placed back on line Nov. 18, 2013.

    KUTTAWA, Ky., (Dec. 6, 2013) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Barkley Hydropower Plant Unit 1 here is back in operation after a phase-to-ground fault caused a fire that damaged the 32.5 Megawatt generator stator windings in Dec. 19, 2010.

    Tennessee kicks off ‘Silver Jackets’ with local, state, federal partners

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2013) – Local, state and federal partners kicked off Silver Jackets today at the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency Headquarters. Tennessee officially becomes the 40th state to join the program that provides a formal, consistent and unified approach to planning and implementing measures to reduce the risks associated with flooding and other natural hazards.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 13, 2013) – More than 250 business owners and managers received extensive information about woman owned business opportunities within the federal, state and local procurement systems during the 2nd Annual Small Business Training Forum today at the Tennessee State University Avon Williams Campus.

    Nashville District completes Wolf Creek Dam barrier wall

    JAMESTOWN, Ky. (March 6, 2013) – Construction workers placed concrete for the last pile today, which completes the underground barrier wall and paves the way for raising the Lake Cumberland pool level. It is the last of 1,197 piles that are approximately four feet in diameter and extend 275 feet from near the top of the dam into bedrock below the foundation of the 4,000-foot long embankment of Wolf Creek Dam.

    Students shadow district personnel for a day of engineering

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 1, 2013) – Two local high school sophomores shadowed a number of very experienced engineers today at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to learn more about the jobs and educational requirements of the career field.
