Hudson installed as SAME Nashville Post president

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 18, 2013) – The Nashville Post of the Society of American Military Engineers installed its new president today during an installation ceremony in the Tennessee Engineering Center at the Adventure Science Center.

Lt. Col. John L. Hudson, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District commander accepted the position and replaces outgoing President Bryon Olsen, who is an engineer with Hardaway Construction in Nashville, Tenn.

 “I’m grateful for this opportunity to lead the Nashville SAME post and look forward to the challenges we as a post have in front of us for 2014 and 2015,” Hudson said. “My commitment to SAME started from my early years as a military officer in the Army at Ft. Bragg and I’m still committed to the great things SAME continues to do for the engineering community. 

 Hudson said he understands the collaboration of SAME between the military and the privates sector.  He commended the group for their involvement and appreciates all the hard work that continues to be displayed.   

 “Thank you very much,” Hudson said about his installation as president of the Nashville Post. “I look forward to this year’s events and appreciate Brian, members of the board, and everyone’s volunteering and support.”

 Olsen said in relinquishing the presidency of the post that he was proud of the accomplishments and the future of the post looks great.

 “It’s been another great year for SAME Nashville post and we’ve accomplished a lot with a great board and membership,” Olsen said. “We are set to hold the regional conference for the South Central Region Atlantic region and we are looking forward to that.

 Olsen said he plans to stay active while taking a step backwards finished by saying that next year is going to be even better.

 “We are looking for another great year and I’m excited to have Lt. Col. Hudson as our president,” said Olsen.

 Also during the meeting, Executive Director Tina England, from the military support group “Operation Home Front” provided a presentation and the SAME Nashville Post made a donation of $1,000 to the group.   Operation Home Front is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization formed in February 2002.  It was developed to support the families of deployed service members immediately following 9/11. Operation Home Front is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and has evolved into a major nonprofit. The organization currently provides services to military families across the nation with 23 locations serving 43 states. The national office handles cases in states that do not have their own local offices. The majority of our clients are the lowest-paid service members, the E-1 through E-6 enlisted ranks.

 The Nashville SAME Post wanted to support this organization because the program supports the military and its dedicated services to military families around the world.  For more information about Operation Home Front, go to http://www.operationhomefront.net.

 SAME is headquartered in Alexandria, Va., and is the premier professional military engineering association in the United States. It unites architecture, engineering, construction, facility management, and environmental entities and individuals in the public and private sectors. Together, they prepare for and overcome natural and manmade disasters, and improve security at home and abroad.

 The organization provides its 27,000-plus members opportunities for training, education, and professional development through offerings of conferences, workshops, networking events, and publications.

 Members include recent service academy graduates and retired flag officers, project managers and corporate executives, DOD civilians, private-sector experts and many others.
