NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2018) – Frank Mills, civil engineer, is the Nashville District Employee of the Month for August 2018.

Mills is being recognized for his significant contributions while serving as the technical lead for several critical projects in the Nashville District.

According to Lt. Col. Cullen Jones, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District commander, Mills always displays extraordinary dedication to mission and team spirit.

"He recognizes the importance of strengthening the foundation of the organization by enriching and mentoring," said Jones.  "He takes care of people and always delivers on his projects."

Jones said Mills worked and executed plans for several supplemental funded projects. Mills worked the Edmondson Pike road protection, organized an Engineer and Construction team to assist in the design and led a weekly progress review to keep leadership informed on key project milestones.

He coordinated with Soldiers from Fort Campbell and served as technical lead for the Lock C Barge Site Improvement Project.  The program provided a loading platform and site improvements for mobilization and demobilization of military equipment transported by waterways.

"This effort directly support National Security by reducing training costs which improves Army readiness," said Jones.

Brad Long, Soils and Dam Safety chief, said Mills also contributed to the Swannanoa 205 Biltmore Avenue Bridge Bank Cut that helps reduce flooding in the City of Asheville, N.C., and worked at the Center Hill Site Restoration project at Ike Park.

"I'm not surprised at all that he was named as the employee of the month," said Long.  "Frank is a natural leader, he has the experience and a very hard worker."

Long said Mills is naturally modest and he thinks his work ethic comes from his military background.

Cullen Miller, chief of Technical Service Section, said he considers Mills a seasoned civil engineer who is very dedicated to the Corps mission and continues to prove that he is an invaluable asset to our office.

"Frank, (Aka) Tater, is the type of employee that is a team leader," said Miller.  "He is motivated, always contributes to the team and gets the job done."

Long said Mills' calm demeanor, patience and willingness to be of assistance to anyone shows his dedication to his profession.

"He is most deserving for this award because of the sacrifice and extra effort he puts forth to his job," Long said.

Mills said he was surprised by the recognition and is grateful to know his team notices his contributions to the team.

He credits his hard work and professionalism to the military, his family and friends.

Mills began working with the Corps in the Memphis District in 2009 and transferred to the Nashville District in 2013.

He said his wife Katie and daughters Molly, 2, and Maddie, 6 months, keep him inspired and proud.

He is a native of Canton, Ga., and earned a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from U.S. Army West Point Military Academy in West Point, New York.

His hobbies include mountain biking, water sports, any sport outdoors, and playing the guitar.
