NR 14-011: Closure of Bell Road scheduled at J. Percy Priest Dam

Published May 15, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 15, 2014) – Bell Road is closing at J. Percy Priest Dam from 7 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Friday between June 2 and July 11 while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District replaces the spillway gate chains and performs routine maintenance, which is required every five years. The roadway will be open on weekends over the duration of the work.

“We understand this is a hardship for local commuters.  But safety is a top concern for us, and we have to precisely set in place a large crane to perform the work on the dam and over the spillway.  This is why the roadway has to be closed during this period,” said Randy Crabtree, superintendent at the J. Percy Priest Power Plant.

Todd Yann, resource manager at J. Percy Priest Lake, said the Corps is trying to inform local residents and others who routinely use this route so they can make alternative transportation plans during the period of the work and closure over the dam.

“Please share this with everyone you know so they can plan ahead for this closure,” Yann said. “We know this is a huge inconvenience for a lot of people and we just want to alleviate the frustration by getting the word out ahead of time.”
