SOMERSET, Ky. (Oct. 31, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District invites the public to spend an evening of fun under the stars during Lake Cumberland’s Campfire Family Night.

The event is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16 at Lake Cumberland’s Natural Resource Management Office located at 855 Boat Dock Road in Somerset, Ky.

Park rangers are starting the evening with a little adventure with a sneak peek of the unique and fascinating world of plants and animals that call the woods that surround the quarter mile Black Walnut Trail home.

Following the nature walk, gather around the campfire for a program on water safety while cooking your own s ‘mores and sipping on hot chocolate.

Visitors are asked to dress appropriately for the weather, wear closed toed shoes, and bring a flashlight (preferably with a red lens to protect your eyes and the eyes of nocturnal animals). Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the evening.

All visitors interested in participating in the event must RSVP by contacting the Lake Cumberland’s Resource Management Office by Nov. 13 to ensure there is enough food and drink ordered for the event. For more information or to register your party, please contact Park Ranger Aurora Scott at (606) 679-6337.
