General recognizes security officer wounded in Iraq IED attack
Maj. Gen. Mark Toy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division commander, poses with Billy Johnson, who received the Secretary of Defense Medal for the Defense of Freedom, recognizing the severe injuries he sustained while supporting a Corps of Engineers mission as a security officer in Iraq Dec. 9, 2007, and Phillip Gonzales, a U.S. Army Special Forces medic. Gonzales submitted Johnson for the Defense of Freedom Medal. The general presented the medal April 8, 2019 on behalf of Secretary of the Army Mark T. Esper during a ceremony held at the Tennessee Valley Authority Central Labs near Chickamauga Lock in Chattanooga, Tenn.
