Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is becoming a more poplar activity on Old Hickory Lake.  However, it is important to think safety first as a diver and a vessel operator.

A "Diver-Down" flag is a red flag with a white diagonal stripe.

  • Always display the "Diver-Down" flag and stay close to the flag while diving
  • If using a boat to get to your diving location, be sure to use a suitable boat and anchor
  • Avoid overloading the vessel with people, equipment, or supplies
  • Never dive alone

Vessel Operator should:

  • Be able to recognize a "Diver-Down" flag, a red flag with a white diagonal stripe, floating in the area of the divers
  • Stay the legal distance away from a "Diver-Down" flag and avoid driving your vessel between a "Diver-Down" flag and a nearby shore
  • Watch for divers surfacing when you see a "Diver-Down" flag and bubbles that might indicate a diver below
