RUMOR |
FACT |
| The dam is about to fail.
(03/17/10) |
The dam is not in imminent
danger of failure. The indicators shown by our instrumentation,
while out of the ordinary, do not suggest the dam is failing or is in
danger of imminent failure. |
| RUMOR |
FACT |
| Work on the dam has stopped
because the barrier wall project is not working. (3/14/10) |
Work has been partially
suspended in one 600-foot long section of the dam. Instrumentation
used to monitor the foundation has indicated movement and increased
hydrostatic pressure since work began in the area adjacent to the
concrete section of the dam. The suspension is precautionary and
will ensure our methods are effective and that we can safely install the
barrier wall in this area. Because this area of the dam is highly
complex, our instrumentation provides the feedback we need on the
effectiveness and safety of our methods, and we use that data to tailor
our engineering solutions. Work on the barrier
wall is continuing as planned on the remaining 3800 feet of the dam. |

Disaster drills have been
scheduled in communities downstream, and the National Guard has been
called in. (3/12/10)
|
We are not in an emergency
situation at Wolf Creek Dam, and any disaster drills scheduled by
downstream emergency managers are routine and not in response to the
work suspension at the dam. The National Guard has not been called
in. |
| RUMOR |
FACT |
|
The entire project has stopped while
you review the instrumentation readings. (3/11/10)
|
Work has been partially suspended in one 600-foot long
section of the dam while we review instrumentation readings. Work
on is continuing as planned on the remaining 3800 feet of the dam. |

FACT |
| You are planning to
take the Lake Cumberland elevation to 673 or lower. (3/10/10) |
We do not have any current
plans to lower the lake below 680, nor do we foresee lowering the lake
at this time. |
