NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 8, 2016) – Steve Stello, civil hydraulic engineer in the water resources section of the hydraulics and hydrology branch, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District employee of the month for February 2016.

Stello is recognized for his merit with the development and research of the Project Management Business Process Refresher Training Course.

Frank Mills, civil engineer in the civil and structural department of hydraulics and hydrology, worked with Stello during the Leadership Development Program II class.  He said Stello is the main mastermind for the write up for the Project Management Business Program training presented in the Leadership Development Program.

“He is a big picture person and everything he does is for the ultimate benefit for the organization,” said Mills. “His biggest asset to the Corps of Engineers is he is a problem solver, and has a mind for team integration and long term solutions.”

With his long term solution approach, Stello aimed to create a more interactive Project Management Business Program over the course of a three-phase training process offered to employees.

Ben Rohrbach, hydraulics and hydrology branch chief, said Stello not only knows how to manage people, but lead.

“Stello is technically sound,” said Rohrbach. “He is a senior engineer and is full of technical abilities.  I look for him to mentor new engineers and work with supervisors on initiatives for improvements.”

Stello said he did not expect the recognition but feels being named employee of the month is a validation of the work performed by his group’s project in the Leadership Development Program.

Stello joined the Nashville District in 2012 after transferring from the Honolulu District and greatly enjoys his job.  He said he loves having the ability to work with team members and tries to help his co-workers evaluate their strengths and incorporate them into the Corps mission.

“You are able to infuse your strengths and passions into your job creatively and can create a more motivated environment,” said Stello.  “The work itself within each section is a variety.”

Lt. Col. Stephen F. Murphy, Nashville District commander said Stello’s leadership and hard work makes him an outstanding employee.

“Steve’s organization, tenacity and guidance was instrumental in the development and extensive research conducted in order to develop the three-phase training program,” said Murphy.

Stello’s last presentation for the new Program Management Business Process is May 2016 in Atlanta, Ga., during a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project management program community of practice conference.

Stello is a native of Baltimore, Pa.  He attended Pennsylvania State University where he studied hydraulic engineering, and began working for the Corps of Engineers 14 years ago.

Stello and his wife Angela have been married for 13 years.  They have a son, Evan, 5, a daughter, Aria, 4, and a daughter, Sienna, 2.  He loves a variety of sports and is a soccer coach, loves tackling do-it-yourself projects at home, and enjoys graphic design.
