NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 29, 2014) – Daphne Jackson, contract liaison, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee of the Month for August 2014.  She works in the Operations Division Management Support Branch and is being recognized for her significant contributions.

“Daphne’s contributions to end-of-year execution have been enormous,” said Lt. Col. John L. Hudson, Nashville District commander.  “She is Contracting's ‘go-to person’ to run down issues in the field for Operations, so Contracting can focus on year-end execution.”

Jackson processed more than 90 contract packages valued at over $9 million for the Operations Division during the month, which is a difficult task for one person to manage, Hudson said.

“I love my job, the people that work alongside me and I count it a privilege to receive this award,” said Jackson.  “I especially thank the Contracting Office for nominating me and allowing me to work closely with 11 great employees from the contracting office and 500 other employees in the Operations Division.”

Jackson has 36 years of federal service.  She initially started with the 101st Airborne Division in 1978 as a cooperative education student.  In 1979 she moved to the Nashville District while still attending college and worked in the Hydraulics Branch. She took a position in the Geo-technical Branch in 1982 and remained there until December 2008.  In 2008 she progressed to her current position in the Management Support Branch.

Donna Davis, a program analyst in the Management Support Branch, said Jackson is a hard worker and a friendly, smart, professional who is dedicated to helping and exceeding the needs of her coworkers and those she serves.

“She is a team player, said Davis.  “One of her best qualities is that she is kind and caring.  She is well organized, plays a big role our success in the district and is a good friend to everyone.”

Jackson is responsible for the Operation’s Division procurement missions, which include recreation, navigation and hydropower. The Contracting Office procures 100 to 150 contracts for the entire Operations Division.  Jackson processes contracts when personnel and field offices order supplies, equipment, materials and services in support of operations and maintenance of the projects on the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers.

“She is most deserving (for this recognition) because of the extra effort she puts forth in her job, in all cases exceeding the requirements of her position,” Davis said. “Her willingness to make decisions, answer questions, and provide assistance to anyone at any time shows her dedication to her profession and the personnel in the district.”

Hudson said Jackson’s commitment to a successful year-end execution impacts every project in the district and is evident when contractors arrive to perform services, begin construction projects, and deliverables arrive.

“I enjoy coming to work every day because I’m surrounded by a group of dedicated employees that have passion for their jobs,” said Jackson.

Jackson said that one of the keys to her success was being able to readily adapt to changes, being patient and staying consistent.

“It is important for everyone to do their share to make our district better,” said Jackson.  “The district has been through many changes over the last few years but our ability to succeed is based on how we train, prepare, and adapt to organizational changes and staffing.

“Her outstanding performance along with her ‘team player’ outlook significantly contributes to a successful year-end execution and ultimately the mission of the district,” said Hudson.

Jackson is married to Nathaniel Jackson and they have a son, Matthew, 28. She and Nathaniel recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary.

Jackson’s hobbies include: Painting, going to see movies, listening to good music and calligraphy
