    Nashville District prepares for remnants of Hurricane Harvey

    NASHVILLE, TENN. (Aug. 31, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Water Management Center is preparing for heavy rainfall in areas of the lower Cumberland River Basin from remnants of Hurricane Harvey, and is managing the release of water from dams throughout the Cumberland Basin to reduce flood risk.

    Keep safe Labor Day weekend with a few water safety tips

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 29, 2017) – School is back in session, work has picked up, days are getting shorter, and there is just one holiday left before the unofficial end of summer. This Labor Day weekend families will get together to recreate and celebrate all the hard days they have worked. When swimming or boating on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes, the public is encouraged to have fun, but remember a few water safety tips to keep safe.

    Thousands Flock to area Corps Lakes for once in a Lifetime Eclipse

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Thousands of people from across the United States gathered for “Eclipse Mania 2017” on Aug. 21, to catch a glimpse of the total solar eclipse from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mid-state area lakes and rivers. Visitors from around the country viewed the eclipse at campgrounds, day use areas, along lake shorelines and watched from boats.

    MONTICELLO, Ky. (Aug. 5, 2017) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park rangers from the Nashville District patrolled the waters of Lake Cumberland today and provided a safety net of security during the annual Lake Cumberland Raft-Up for thousands of avid boaters.

(Aug. 4, 2017) - It was “Christmas in July” for the sixth year in a row at Lock A Campground at Cheatham Lake July 29, 2017, and North Pole volunteers made sure everyone enjoyed holiday crafts, ice cream, meeting Santa Claus and his elves, and a hayride through the campground.

    SOMERSET, Ky. (Aug. 1, 2017) – The “PRIDE of the Cumberland,” a vessel operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is back hard at work today keeping Lake Cumberland’s waterways and shorelines clean and free of logs, debris and trash.

    JACKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (Aug. 1, 2017) – The removal of Roaring River Dam is underway, a multi-organizational stream restoration effort that will reconnect aquatic species and make recreation safer near the low head dam that is at risk of failing and no longer needed as a fish barrier.

    Patty Coffey is the deputy district engineer for the Nashville District. She also serves as the Chief of the Planning, Programs, and Project Management Division. She assists in directing all the water resource activities of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers throughout the Cumberland River Basin, and navigation and regulatory matters in the Tennessee River Basin, an area of more than 59,000 square miles, with 49 field offices touching seven states and a work force of over 750 federal employees.

    Coffey becomes new deputy district engineer

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 26, 2017) – The commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently announced that Patty Coffey, acting deputy district engineer, will permanently fill the position, the highest civilian leader in the organization.

  • Greg Forte, an Old Hickory power plant senior mechanic, at the Old Hickory Lock and Dam provides NSTI students with information about the interior operations of the Old Hickory Power Plant on June 21, 2017. Both were part of a group of 17 students who attended the Tennessee State University Engineering Department's four-week NSTI National Summer Transportation Institute program that introduces students to various aspects of engineering. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has partnered with the Tennessee State University College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science Department to mentor science, technology, engineering and math students during a four-week National Summer Transportation Institute program June 20 through July 2 on the campus of TSU.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 7, 2017) – Lt. Col. Cullen A. Jones took command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District today during a change of command ceremony at the Tennessee National Guard Armory. He becomes the 65th commander of the famed “Twin Rivers” district in the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division.

    Visitors at Corps lakes go boating, fishing, swimming or maybe just relax on the shoreline. All these activities are perfectly fine until one particular thing happens - littering. When this disgraceful activity happens then the good time turns into "trash pickup time."
