    Nashville District Corps employees embraces inclusion during 2013 Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 31, 2013) - Each May, our nation comes together to recount the ways Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders helped forge our country. On May 31, 2013, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville district’s Equal Employment Opportunity Office and Special Emphasis Program group celebrated with a program here to observe Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month at the District headquarters.

    USACE-TVA 80-year partnership a definite plus for Cumberland, Tennessee Rivers Basin

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 17, 2013) -- Although creation of the Tennessee Valley Authority by Congressional Act on May 18, 1933 relieved the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of most of its role in developing the economic potential of the Tennessee River and its tributaries, the Corps retained a development and operational role on the Cumberland River and its tributaries.

  • U.S. Coast Guard releases 2012 Recreational Boating Statistics Report

    Almost 71 percent of all fatal boating accident victims drowned, with 84 percent of those victims not reported as wearing a life jacket. Approximately 14 percent of deaths occurred on vessels where the operator had received boating safety instruction. The most common types of vessels involved in reported accidents were open motorboats, personal watercraft and cabin motorboats.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 10, 2013) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District produces about $40 million annual revenue by converting water’s energy into 3.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 28 generators at its nine Hydropower Plants in the Cumberland River Basin.

    WASHINGTON — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers National Operations Center for Water Safety announces the release of a seven-minute testimonial water safety video that recounts the loss of a father and his son who were not wearing life jackets while boating.

There were 11 learning stations that kids rotated between on Environmental Awareness Day at Old Hickory Lake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District sponsors events like this to draw awareness to subjects in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (May 7, 2013) – About 150 sixth-grade students from Hawkins Middle School received “hands-on” environmental lessons today on the shoreline of Old Hickory Lake.

    ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (May 2, 2013) – Students from West Cheatham Elementary School participated in Environmental Awareness Day at Cheatham Lake today and the outdoor setting provided a unique learning opportunity away from their classrooms.

Kay, an engineer technician in the structural branch, and Deslatte, a real estate appraiser, saw the location of the old, low head Lock and Dam 3 at river mile 218.1 on a Cumberland River Navigation Survey map of 1930. The current Cumberland River Navigation Chart shows Old Hickory Dam downstream at river mile 216.2, which inundated Lock and Dam 3 when the new dam became operational in 1954. Kirk held the open house to increase awareness among district employees of the vast resources available and how to access them.
