    Concrete placement rolling along at Center Hill’s auxiliary saddle dam

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (April 18, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently began placing “roller-compacted concrete” to build a reinforcing berm downstream of Center Hill’s auxiliary dam. This construction is the final major risk-reduction contract in the ongoing Center Hill Dam Safety Rehabilitation Project.

    CINCINNATI - Dam Safety is a crucial mission of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and in particular, the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division – the Division I currently Command. I have heard the concerns from the public about the proposed quarry on non-federal property adjacent to Old Hickory Dam. I want to assure everyone that my Corps dam safety professionals have thoroughly evaluated the quarry’s proposal to ensure that Old Hickory Dam will not be harmed. I am neither for, nor against the quarry – I am only for the safety of Old Hickory and the safety of the public affected by Old Hickory.

    Nashville District highlights its notable projects leading into National Dam Safety Awareness Day

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 29, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has two notable engineering projects to its credit in recent years to stop seepage through the embankments of Wolf Creek Dam in Jamestown, Ky., and Center Hill Dam in Lancaster, Tenn. In conjunction with National Dam Safety Awareness Day May 31, 2015, the district is highlighting the major effort it took to construct concrete barrier walls deep into the foundations of these dams.

(May 18, 2015) – Officials celebrated the completion of a barrier wall in the main dam embankment of Center Hill Dam during a ceremony today at the work platform on top of the dam. The $115 million foundation barrier wall is a key component of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Center Hill Dam Safety Remediation Project.

    Higher headquarters observes how Cumberland River Basin supported Greater Mississippi River System during 2011 flood fight
