    RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. (April 19, 2013) – During a completion ceremony today in the Russell Springs Auditorium and Natatorium, a live feed of the last concrete placement on the work platform at Wolf Creek Dam drew applause from dignitaries, stakeholders and citizens in attendance.

    Carolyn Bauer, a former Lake Cumberland park ranger who recently retired from the Corps in March with 35 years of service, talks March 13, 2013 as an honorary display wall is unveiled to commemorate the service of park rangers at the Lake Cumberland Visitor's Center. She called Wallace Halcomb, who was honored, a great teacher, a mentor and a fun-loving family man. Current and former park rangers, employees, family members and friends commemorated the service of park rangers over the decades as environmental regulators and guardians of historic lands.

    Nashville District completes Wolf Creek Dam barrier wall

    JAMESTOWN, Ky. (March 6, 2013) – Construction workers placed concrete for the last pile today, which completes the underground barrier wall and paves the way for raising the Lake Cumberland pool level. It is the last of 1,197 piles that are approximately four feet in diameter and extend 275 feet from near the top of the dam into bedrock below the foundation of the 4,000-foot long embankment of Wolf Creek Dam.

    Work crews reach million-hour safety milestone at Wolf Creek Dam

    JAMESTOWN, Ky. (Aug. 17, 2012) – Construction crews at the Wolf Creek Dam Foundation Remediation Project reached a lofty safety milestone today when the men and women installing a concrete barrier wall deep into the dam’s embankment reached 550 days and one million work-hours on the job without a lost-time accident.

    SOMERSET, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District made a big splash when its park rangers at Lake Cumberland partnered with the Somersplash Water Park to promote water safety Aug. 4, 2012.

    JAMESTOWN, Ky. (Aug. 7, 2012) – Nashville Mayor Karl Dean visited Wolf Creek Dam today to see the ongoing foundation remediation construction, which is a dam safety project of vital importance to the citizens he represents 270 miles downstream.

    Nearly 600 volunteers ‘pitch in’ at 22nd Annual Lake Cumberland Clean-up

    SOMERSET, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2011) – Cooler temperatures welcomed volunteers to yet another successful National Public Lands Day event here along the shores of Lake Cumberland. The Friends of Lake Cumberland, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, held the 22nd annual lake-wide cleanup, and the results were terrific.

    JAMESTOWN, Ky., (Sept. 13, 2011) — Kendall Annex Campground here has been welcoming families since 2006 and is wrapping up its sixth year of operation. For those of you who have not visited the Annex campground recently, it’s getting a new addition to the area! It will soon have playground facilities conveniently located adjacent to the bathhouse and sites 113 and 114.

    Historic Corps gristmill operates during cornbread festival

    MONTICELLO, Ky. (May 28, 2011) – Kentuckians arrived in droves here today at Mill Springs Mill to see the many craft booths, enjoy music performances, and to eat “hoe” cakes during the 18th Annual Cornbread Festival. They also came for bags of cornmeal on sale at the gift shop, and watched as the largest overshot waterwheel in the world turned and ground corn for the masses.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 13, 2011) – National Volunteer week took place April 10-16, and Girl Scout Troop 1047 led by Tracey Strong of Monticello, Kentucky volunteered their service on Lake Cumberland’s Black Walnut Trail April 16.

    KUTTAWA, Ky. (May 8, 2011) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Deputy Commanding General for Civil and Emergency Operations Maj. Gen. William T. Grisoli and Director of Contingency Operations and Homeland Security, Karen Durham-Aguilera, toured the Lake Barkley Dam and Power plant, the Kentucky Lock, the town of Smithland and Paducah, Ky., flood protection barriers, structures and pumping stations along the levees.
