    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 29, 2023) – Park rangers in Tennessee and Kentucky are stepping up efforts to promote water safety in lieu of 10 tragic drownings already this recreation season at Corps lakes in the Cumberland River Basin.

    Resource manager recognized for promoting water safety

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 2, 2022) – The resource manager at Lake Cumberland and Laurel River Lake in Kentucky is recognized for promoting water safety, spearheading public outreach activities and several marketing campaigns that reached more than two million people in eastern Kentucky.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 5, 2021) – The Water Quality Team, a component of the Water Management Section within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, routinely collects water quality information at the 10 reservoir projects in the Cumberland River Basin.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 14, 2020) – As part of a phased approach for reopening facilities as part of its COVID-19 reopening plan, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is opening its corps-managed campgrounds within the Cumberland River Basin in Tennessee June 1, 2020.

    Protecting recreating public, government personnel driving force behind closures due to COVID-19

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 20, 2020) -- As America confronts the challenges of COVID-19, protecting the health and safety of the recreating public, volunteers and our government personnel is our highest priority. To further protect against the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all U.S. Army Corps of Engineers managed campgrounds will remain closed or immediately begin an orderly shutdown.
  • In the interest of public safety, and in accordance with Center for Disease Control recommendations, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is taking the following precautionary measures to assist public health efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19. Defeated Creek Campground is the only campground in Defeated, Tennessee, on the shoreline of Cordell Hull Lake is the only campground in the Nashville District that has already opened. (Jan. 11, 2020) – Avid boaters and outdoors enthusiasts stopped in at the Nashville Boat Show at the Music City Center in hopes of checking off their list of preseason to-dos, and preparing for the start of the fishing season with a little help from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park rangers.

    Park rangers promote water safety at Nashville Boat Show

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 11, 2019) – Boaters and their families are invited to navigate to booth 404 at the Nashville Boat Show in Music City Center to meet with park rangers who are familiar with Corps of Engineers lakes, dams, locks, recreation areas and campgrounds in the Cumberland River Basin.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has a new policy that governs the operation and use of recreational unmanned aerial systems (UAS) at all Nashville District lakes within the Cumberland River Basin. The guidance has designated safe locations to fly drones for hobbyists, while at the same time prohibiting drones where people are camping and recreating such as designated swim beaches. The policy also prohibits UAS flights near critical infrastructure such as locks, dams, power plants and switch yards.

    Corps of Engineers waives day use fees for vets on Veterans Day

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is waiving day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at more than 2,200 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. This includes areas the Nashville District operates within the Cumberland River Basin.
