    Lebanon partners with Corps to study flood risk management in Bartons Creek watershed

    LEBANON, Tenn. (Nov. 19, 2015) – The city of Lebanon and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District held a signing ceremony today that signals the beginning of a Flood Risk Management Study of the Bartons Creek watershed. The study includes Bartons and Sinking Creeks and will look at measures to reduce flood risk as well as provide the city with new flood mapping for these streams.

    Hydropower Optimization increases energy production at Corps plants

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 18, 2015) - Aging hydroelectric generating units operated by the district at Dams in Kentucky and Tennessee have gone well beyond their typical design life of 35-40 years and are in much need of rehabilitation. Engineers at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District are focused on a plan to revitalize and rehabilitate the units in the next 20 years.

    Murphy becomes 64th commander of Nashville District

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 16, 2015) – Lt. Col. Stephen F. Murphy took command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District during a change of command ceremony today at the Tennessee National Guard Armory. He becomes the 64th commander in the district’s 127 year history.

    Country Music Artist Tanya Tucker recently partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to produce a public service announcement encouraging her fans to wear their life jackets. She had her first hit, "Delta Dawn", in 1972 at the age of 13. Over the succeeding decades, Tucker became one of the few child performers to mature into adulthood without losing her audience, and during the course of her career, she notched a streak of Top 10 and Top 40 hits.

(May 13, 2015) – The forced removal of Cherokee Indians east of the Mississippi River in 1838 to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma is described by the Cherokee Nation today as the “trail where they cried.” A rediscovered segment of the Trail of Tears near the East Fork Recreation Area is providing new insight into what they experienced during the journey across Tennessee.
