    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 15, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is celebrating 125 years of service to the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers Basins and to the Nation that began when the district was created Aug. 18, 1888 under the command of Lt. Col. John W. Barlow.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 9, 2013) – Lt. Col. John L. Hudson took command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District during a change of command ceremony today at the Tennessee National Guard Armory. He becomes the 63rd commander in the district’s 125th anniversary year.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has recorded six water-related fatalities on its lakes since May 11, 2013. Five drowned, with alcohol use suspected in one death; one died when a vessel ran aground; none were wearing life jackets.

    U.S. Coast Guard releases 2012 Recreational Boating Statistics Report

    Almost 71 percent of all fatal boating accident victims drowned, with 84 percent of those victims not reported as wearing a life jacket. Approximately 14 percent of deaths occurred on vessels where the operator had received boating safety instruction. The most common types of vessels involved in reported accidents were open motorboats, personal watercraft and cabin motorboats.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 10, 2013) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District produces about $40 million annual revenue by converting water’s energy into 3.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 28 generators at its nine Hydropower Plants in the Cumberland River Basin.

    This is Dale Hollow Dam Feb. 26, 2013. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District electricians at Dale Hollow Dam on the Obey river are working on a Sustainability Program Initiative project to replace the contracted local utility power source to the resource managers office, maintenance shops, and transient quarters with direct power from the Dale Hollow Power House.
