(May 5, 2023)— As the recreation season warms up, attracting more of the public to Corps lakes and recreation areas, Nashville District park rangers like Cordell Hull Lake Park Ranger Ashley Webster stay ready to serve the community by providing on-site assistance and customer care to visitors as they hit Corps Lakes across Middle Tennessee for some sun, fun, and fishing.

    The Electronics Services Section built and coded the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, which is currently being put in Nashville District hydropower plants and Detroit District hydropower plant. The control system will allow Corps engineers to operate hydropower plants from within the Nashville District. Electrical Engineer Skylar Holloway, Senior Electronics Mechanic Allen Hay, Hydropower Plant Senior Electronics Engineer Luke Ditto, and ESS Supervisor Richard Reiger show the Remote Terminal Unit simulator the team built and used to conduct testing before making and coding the system currently being installed at the Corps hydropower plants.

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (April 3, 2023)— The Nashville District Corps of Engineers installed the first part of a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system at J. Percy Priest hydropower plant located in Nashville, Tennessee, and it is remotely operated from Old Hickory hydropower plant in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

    Maintenance Support Team, Lock engineers tackle tough jobs

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (March 10, 2023) – Nashville District Maintenance Support Team and Kentucky Lock engineers onboard the Motor Vessel Iroquois repaired a mooring cell and replaced broken and outdated parts this week just upstream of Kentucky Lock on the Tennessee River in Grand Rivers, Kentucky.

    Flood Risk Management: Protecting people from water

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 13, 2023)— USACE's Flood Risk Management Program is designed to reduce overall flood risk through policies, programs, and expertise. By using structures like flood control storage dams and implementing preventative planning measures which can reduce loss of life, and economic damages or improve the natural environment, the Nashville District is helping to prevent flood risk damages.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 23, 2022)– The Nashville District Corps of Engineers celebrated Christmas throughout December by holding a Christmas party “round robin,” and a holiday reflection watch party at the district headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee.

    Nashville District rangers spread Water Safety at the Wilson County Fair

    LEBANON, Tenn. (Aug. 31, 2022) —Rangers with the Nashville District Corps of Engineers set up a water safety booth during the Wilson County Fair to hand out educational materials and children’s goody bags. During the weeklong event, J. Percy Priest park rangers greeted fair attendees and passed out pamphlets with important water safety information and maps of local Corps lakes.

(July 27, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District collaborated with the Tennessee State University Engineering Department to give science, technology, engineering, and math students a behind the scenes look at hydropower during the National Summer Transportation Institute program.

    TWRA kicks off Operation Dry Water for July 4th Holiday Weekend

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 1, 2022) – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency held a press day at J. Percy Priest Lake in Nashville, Tennessee to spread the word about Operation Dry Water, before the upcoming 4th of July weekend. ODW, a national awareness and enforcement campaign focused on reducing the number of alcohol and drug-related incidents and fatalities on the water, will take place from July 2 to July 4. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District hosted the event at Priest Lake.

    Tennessee medical personnel participate in waterborne massive causality exercise at J. Percy Priest Lake

    SMYRNA, Tenn. (June 13, 2022) — Personnel from Ascension Medical Group Saint Thomas conducted multiple mass casualty triage and evacuation incidents at Fate Sanders Marina on J. Percy Priest Lake in Smyrna, Tennessee. The purpose of the exercise was to educate and field test interns in a waterborne reenactment exercise which simulated what a catastrophic boating accident with several victims would entail.
