NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 19, 2015) – Lesslie Williams, budget technician in the Operations Branch in the Mid-Cumberland Area office at Cordell Hull Lake, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District employee of the month for March 2015.

“Lesslie is recognized for her significant contributions to the operations branch and contributions as the Great Lakes and Ohio River’s Grant Officer,” said Lt. Col. John L. Hudson, Nashville District commander.

Williams used her expertise in finance working in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Financial Management System, producing invoicing and research,” according to Hudson.

“I enjoy my job and working, helping people and sharing information helps me grow,” Williams said.  “I am beyond grateful and count it a privilege to receive this award.”

Williams began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1996 after a short career in banking.  Her husband Harold retired from the Corps in 2004.

Melissa Sager, financial and accounting officer in the Resource Management Branch, said Williams is a hard worker and a friendly, smart, professional who always is willing to try new processes to help the team.  Sager said she is dedicated to helping and exceeding the needs of her coworkers and those she serves around the district.

“She is a team player, said Sager. “One of her best qualities is that she always looks to help others and improve her work in CEFMS (a financial management system). She always has a smile and plays a big role in our success in the district to improve CEFMS.”

Williams said she believes in self improvement and tries to learn something new about her job every day.

“I respect and have the ability to accept constructive criticism and it makes me better,” said Williams

“She is most deserving (for this recognition) because of the extra effort she puts forth in her job, in all cases exceeding the requirements of her position,” said Olga Beddingfield, power project manager of the Nashville District’s Mid-Cumberland Area.   “Her willingness to make timely decisions, answer questions, and provide assistance to anyone needing assistance with CEFMS at any time shows her dedication to her profession and the personnel in the district.”

Hudson said Williams’ can-do spirit and helpful attitude make even tedious tasks pleasant.

“I enjoy coming to work every day because I’m surrounded by great people that have passion for their jobs and care about what they do,” said Williams.

Williams said that one of the keys to her success was being able to readily adapt to changes in new systems, being patient and staying consistent.

“It is important for everyone to do their share to make our district better,” said Williams. “The district has been through many changes over the last few years but our ability to succeed is based on how we train, prepare, and adapt to organizational changes and staffing.

“Her outstanding performance along with her ‘team player’ outlook significantly contributes to a successful year-end execution and ultimately the mission of the district,” said Hudson.

Williams and her husband Harold have four children, Jaleesa, Jamal, Rhonda and Kristi.  She is very active in church activities and loves singing in the choir and working with youth. Her hobbies include amateur photography, basketball and bargain shopping.
