NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 6, 2014) - Ray Kendrick, a contracting specialist at the  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Contracting Office, is the Employee of the Month for June 2014.

Kendrick is being recognized for excellence and his noteworthy contributions that support the efficient operation of the Contracting Office.

Most recently, Kendrick worked tirelessly interfacing daily with the Regional Principal Assistant Responsible for Contracting, in Atlanta, Ga., on a $47 million dollar Center Hill Turbine Rehab contract award.

Kendrick worked closely with the Project Delivery Team members to review the changes and edits to ensure the documents maintained credibility and value. The contract package was reviewed and edited numerous times. Kendrick was able to keep each version separate and track the various changes.

As a result of Kendrick’s efforts, the first major hydropower rehab contract was awarded under the Cumberland River Hydropower Rehab Program prior to the proposal schedule expiration date.

“I’m happy to receive the award and proud to represent the Contracting Office,” said the mild-mannered Kendrick.  “We are a family around here and this is a team effort.”

The Contracting Office is a close-knit group with a family-like atmosphere.  Kendrick says as he has gained experience from others, he now enjoys helping his co-workers with contracting queries and is very humbled by his selection as employee of the month.

Valerie Carlton, chief of the Nashville District’s Contracting Office, said Kendrick is a team player and his quiet, focused and humble communication skills present a strong solid work ethic that produces results.
“I’m excited that Ray was selected for the district employee of the month because he deserves the recognition and we are proud of him,” Carlton said. “It is great that Ray has been recognized for his contributions to the team and we are very fortunate to have him.”

Eric Choate is, contracting officer in Contracting, who trained Kendrick.  He said that Kendrick is always professional, looked to by his peers as a leader, shares key information, and stays focused on the job until it is done.
“This recognition is well deserved for him,” said Choate. “Ray worked hard on this project and brought calm to the storm.”
Choate said his positive attitude, enthusiasm and dedication make him an integral part of the contracting family.  He said Kendrick also worked well with PARC staff under very trying circumstances and maintained his professionalism during the entire process.
Kendrick, who has worked with the Corps for 12 years managed his career and moved through the ranks.  In 2002, he started as an administrative assistant, worked as a procurement specialist, attended school, earned his degree and then applied for his current job in contracting.

“I’m happy with the way my career has progressed in the Corps and I’ve had the opportunity to learn and grow to this point in my life,” said Kendrick.

Kendrick is married and has two grown children.  He enjoys spending time playing pool, fishing and shooting.
