Kay, an engineer technician in the structural branch, and Deslatte, a real estate appraiser, saw the location of the old, low head Lock and Dam 3 at river mile 218.1 on a Cumberland River Navigation Survey map of 1930. The current Cumberland River Navigation Chart shows Old Hickory Dam downstream at river mile 216.2, which inundated Lock and Dam 3 when the new dam became operational in 1954. Kirk held the open house to increase awareness among district employees of the vast resources available and how to access them.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 1, 2013)-- Tammy Kirk, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District librarian held a library open house May 1, 2013 to increase awareness among district employees of the vast resources available and how to access them.

“Our library has a wealth of information dating back to the early 1800’s, but that is only the tip of the iceberg as to what is available in the USACE Electronic Library,” Tammy said.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Electronic Library consists of nine electronic information databases, providing full text access to more than 2,000 research journals and more than 1,500 reference titles and handbooks, according to Tammy.

“These were obtained via a consortium purchase by participating Corps of Engineers field operating activities, laboratories and headquarters offices to help meet the professional needs of its workforce,” Tammy explained. “Logging in, establishing an account, obtaining a user name and password is un-necessary. Nashville District employees on the LRN network are authorized to use these databases,” she added.

Tammy suggests that district employees visit the below links to view current resources and professional help available at their fingertips:
