Mansfield named Nashville District Employee of the Month for January 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jeff Mansfield, a quality management specialist for the U.S. Corps of Engineers Nashville District, is the employee of the month for January 2013.

Mansfield is recognized for his significant contributions in the Business Integration Office where in the past year he led the charge in expanding the region’s International Organization for Standardization certification to include operations, regulatory, and emergency management operations for the district.  ISO standards ensure that products and services are safe, reliable and of good quality.  For business, they are strategic tools that reduce costs by minimizing waste and errors and increasing productivity.

Mansfield led a regional project delivery team of operations subject matter experts through ISO preparation efforts which included documenting functional procedures for inclusion in the regional business processes manual, training employees on processes and ISO requirements, and conducting audits for readiness and compliance which culminated with the external ISO certification audits conducted in January 2013. 

Danita Jones, Nashville District Business Integration Office chief, said Mansfield’s work speaks for itself and his passion for continuous improvement is a driving force in his ability to execute quality program initiatives in an exemplary manner. 

“He is very good at his job,” said Jones. “So much that he is regularly called upon for his experience and knowledge in the area of quality management and is an expert in the region.”

Mansfield coordinated with the Regional Quality Management ISO PDT and the regional operation ISO PDT to ensure a successful audit outcome region-wide, while also leading district efforts that include training more than 200 employees and leading the process for 32 audits throughout the headquarters and field offices. 

“The region is sure to succeed in obtaining ISO Certification for operations due to his preparation, dedication, and leadership,” Jones said.

District officials laud Mansfield’s can-do attitude, and said his attention to detail, enthusiasm to go the extra mile, and help fellow employees to get the job done influences his peers throughout the district.

“This is great to have the opportunity to meet, interact and work with some really smart people at the district,” said Mansfield.  “One of the best things about my job is that I get to work with experts who are the best in their fields at what they do and it’s fun to learn from these people every day.” 

According to Lt. Col. James A. DeLapp, Nashville District commander, Mansfield is an outstanding employee who takes his job very seriously and always stands ready to assist his peers and coworkers throughout the district.

Mansfield is married to his wife Eva and they have two grown children.  During his free time he enjoys reading, doing math, shooting pool, and spending quality time with his family and friends. “I’m truly appreciative to receive this award,” said Mansfield. “The award is a testament to the people I work with and training.”

DeLapp adds that Mansfield’s professionalism, dedication to mission execution, and superior performance is a credit to the Nashville District, the region, and the Corps of Engineers.
