  • NR 14-013: Lake Barkley opens up powerhouse, lock, resource management office for public tours

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (May 16, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering the public free guided tours of Lake Barkley’s Powerhouse, Lock and Natural Resource Management Office. Approximately two hours in length, tours are scheduled June 21, July 19 and Aug. 16, 2014, with tour start times of 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 2 p.m.
  • NR 14-010: Corps invites the public to tour Old Hickory Lock and Dam

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (May 8, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Old Hickory Lake is now accepting registration applications for the Saturday, May 17, lock and dam tour beginning at 11 a.m. at the Old Hickory Lock parking area. Free to the public and approximately 75 minutes in length, the guided tour will give registered participants an opportunity to not only view the facilities, but also learn about the lake’s history and important role the navigational lock and powerhouse facilities play with the cities and towns along the Cumberland River.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 6, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering the public free guided tours of the Dale Hollow Power Plant in Celina, Tenn. These are the first tours of the power plant since the Corps restricted visitations after 9-11. Not all portions of the dam will be accessible to the public due to safety concerns.

  • NR 14-006: Corps offers tours of Cordell Hull Dam Power Plant, Lock

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 28, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering the public free guided tours of the Cordell Hull Dam Power Plant and Lock in Carthage, Tenn. These are the first tours of the power plant since visitation was restricted after Sept. 11, 2001. Not all portions of the dam will be accessible to the public due to safety concerns.
  • NR-040: Nashville District provides info on how government shutdown is affecting operations

    The Nashville District is in the process of conducting an orderly shutdown because of a lack of appropriations. The district will reduce its manpower over time to essential personnel only. These essential personnel will continue to support critical Corps of Engineers missions such as dam safety, hydropower, and operation of the navigation locks on both the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers. The Corps is funded through multiple-year funding, which is enabling the Nashville District to conduct limited operations and construction through the course of the government shutdown. As the lapse in appropriations continues, we will have more employees furloughed over time, but will maintain our mission essential personnel to ensure the operation and protection of corps facilities and property.
  • NR 13-025: Open house tours offer visitors up-close view of Old Hickory Dam

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (July 1, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Old Hickory Lake invites the public to take a closer look at the 61-year-old Old Hickory Lock and Dam structure during open house tours scheduled for Saturday July 20 beginning at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Guided tours of the structure are free to the public and approximately 60 minutes in length.
  • NR 13-017: Old Hickory Lake opens its doors to tours of Old Hickory Lock, Dam

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (May 15, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Old Hickory Lake is offering free guided public tours of the Old Hickory Lake’s Navigation Lock and Powerhouse 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday May 25, June 29, July 20, Aug. 10 and Aug. 25. The tours are approximately one hour in length.
  • NR 12-026: Corps offers more Cheatham Dam Power Plant tours

    CHARLOTTE, Tenn. (July 6, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently resumed offering public tours of the Cheatham Dam Power Plant and more tours are scheduled July 21, Aug. 18 and Sep. 8, 2012 with tours beginning at noon, 1 and 2 p.m. Public access to these Corps facilities was restricted after September 11, 2001.
