Media Advisory: Media invited to witness Kentucky Lock Addition Project milestone

GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Jan. 26, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District invites the media to visit the Kentucky Lock Addition Project 1 p.m.  Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 to see the first completed massive concrete monolith, which crews topped off this past week.  This is a significant milestone in the construction of the new navigation lock, and an unveiling is planned to commemorate the occasion.

News outlets will have the opportunity for interviews and to take pictures and video of the ongoing construction.  More information will also be available to update the status of the project.

Credentialed media will be able to attend and obtain imagery from a point of view above the construction zone.  However, media representatives with steel-toe boots and pants will be allowed to access the construction area. Hard hats, safety vests, ear protection and safety glasses will be provided.  A safety briefing will be given prior to entry.

Media should arrive no later than 12:50 p.m. Parking spots are available near the existing Kentucky Lock.  The address for the lock is 100 Old Gilbertsville Road in Grand Rivers, Ky. The zip code is 42045. 

Directions from Paducah:  From the west (Paducah), take the first right off of Highway 62 after crossing the Tennessee River below Kentucky Dam onto old Powerhouse Access Road.  Go approximately one quarter mile to blinking stoplight. Go diagonally right through the stoplight onto the paved road down the hill.  Turn left and go under the three bridges to the parking area.

Directions from Nashville:  Take Interstate 24 West and follow signs for Clarksville; take exit 31 for Kentucky 453 toward Grand Rivers.  From the east, driving on Highway 62, after passing under Highway 453, turn left at the first road (about half mile), there is a left turn lane - onto old Powerhouse Access Road. Go approximately one quarter mile to blinking stoplight. Go diagonally right through the stoplight onto the paved road down the hill.  Turn left and go under the three bridges to the parking area.
