OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (Aug. 2, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Old Hickory Lake invites the public to lend their support in the restoration and refurbishment of local public lands by giving a helping volunteer hand on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Rockland Recreation Area, Hendersonville, Tenn. and at the Shutes Branch Mountain Bike Trail located within the old Shutes Branch Campground, Mt. Juliet, Tenn.

Volunteer projects include restriping Rockland and Station Camp Recreation Area parking areas, restoring and maintaining the Rockland Nature Trail, and trail maintenance and clean up at Shutes Branch Mountain Bike Trail.

We ask that all volunteers wear closed toed shoes, pants, and bring plenty of water,” said Park Ranger Amy Redmond. “We will provide gloves, protective eye wear, tools and project supplies at each site.”

In appreciation for the volunteers efforts, Old Hickory Lake will provide lunch at Rockland Recreation Area’s shelter one and at the Shutes Branch Mountain Bike Trail.  To ensure enough food and drink is available for all participants, volunteers are asked to register at least seven days in advance.

Volunteers are asked to arrive a few minutes early for check in and a safety briefing. Check in locations are the Resource Manager’s Office located at 5 Power Plant Road, Hendersonville, TN 37075 and the Shutes Branch Mountain Bike Trail’s trailhead is located on the top of the hill on the left of Shutes Branch Road off of Needmore Road, Mt.
