Nashville District Dams

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is comprised of 10 dams throughout the Cumberland River Basin.

A dam is a structure built across a river or stream to hold back water. Manmade dams in Tennessee and Kentucky have created artificial lakes called reservoirs. The reservoirs are used to store water for farming, industry, and household use. They are also used for fishing, boating, and other recreation activities. The Nashville District utilizes dams to manage water levels and help prevent flooding.
